“Young Frankenstein” directed by Mel Brooks is arguably his best movie ever made. It was released in 1974. Mel Brooks is renown for his outrageous comedy films. He never ceases to amaze me. Young Frankenstein is a hilarious horror spoof. It still makes many people laugh. This film is a homage to James Whale’s classic which was shot in the same location with the same props. This satire of old monster movie classics is without a doubt well paced and well acted by Gene Wilder (who also co wrote the story and screenplay in addition to Brooks). It is beautifully crafted and prides itself greatly on the film production values. Both the crazed hilarious cast contrast the somber serious mood of the environment and motions of the time set. Laughter stems from the unbelievable bizarre physical comedy, although it never destroys the pure illusion of the Universal monster movie style that is depicted on the screen. This is a very memorable comedy horror film in my mind. It should not be missed in anyone’s lifetime by all means.
